Water Fantasy: NUS Department of Architecture, School of Design and Environment, continues its long-standing collaboration with bathroom specialist Hansgrohe through the creation of Dream Bathrooms. This collaboration, which was first introduced in 2001, involves a group of third year undergraduates who were tasked to dream about their fantasy bathrooms. Student designers were assigned to conceptualise their bathroom designs based on different themes set

Under the guidance of NUS professors and staff from Hansgrohe, students created design concepts that were not just aesthetically appealing but functionally innovative. Said Mr. KC Lee, Managing Director of Hansgrohe Pte Ltd “We are very pleased to be part of this joint project with NUS since 2001. Hansgrohe has always been in the forefront when it comes to bathroom design and innovation. For this reason, our collaboration with NUS affirms our corporate philosophy. Furthermore, it allows us to play a part in supporting our local educational system by facilitating students to unleash their fullest creative potential.”

The top four students of the Water Fantasy Project are each awarded with $300 in prize money and a plaque from Hansgrohe Pte Ltd

Theme: Bathskin

Bathskin is a bath system that delivers the dream of finding an oasis in the midst of the dryness of the arid environment. In the vastness of the landscape, sand dunes are no longer formed and gone in seconds, instead time stood still for the appreciation of its form, forming surfaces that are possible for the functions of a bath ritual. When the door is opened, 2 other panels move away to open up the space. One is introduced to a whole new dimension, that of softness of the surrounding walls and fluid laminar flow of the elements.

Theme: Cloud 9

Cloud 9 captures the moment of perfect solitude and silence one feels when buried beneath the clouds high up in the cold. One feels encapsulated in a world of his own due to the lack of visual spatial boundary. An ethereal quality is evoked during the shower when steam would condense and fog on the surface of the translucent capsule wall, forming a temporary intensely private space for the user within.

Theme: The Evensong

The Evensong bath attempts to express twilight, the magical moment between the onerous ritual of day and the tranquil night. The user will be cocooned by soaring, black walls, encapsulating him in a dark, monastic temple labyrinth, removed from all distractions. By enabling the user to savor this sacred time, Evensong helps to rejuvenate and refresh, preparing him the morrow.

Theme: Urban Immersion

Urban Immersion encapsulates the metropolitan spirit in a personal and private space. Each bath element embodies the pleasance in different aspects of city life. The adaptability of the system into size-based configurations symbolizes the transformation of the urban landscape.
