Want to modernise your bathroom but avoid actual renovations? No problem! Our design hacks make your bathroom more attractive and accentuate the things that matter to you. Whether to enhance everyday usability, provide a spa-like feeling in the comfort of their own home or for a family bathroom, hansgrohe employees present their favourite improvements to their own bathrooms.
Is your bathroom not quite as you’d like it, but also not yet ready for a full renovation? When plants, a fresh coat of paint or a new towel set no longer suffice to truly revive your bathroom, it’s time for some little upgrades: minor changes that are relatively easy to make but have a big impact.
We asked hansgrohe employees which simple improvements they’ve used to transform their own bathrooms into the rooms they’d always wanted.
For me, it’s all about the right mixture of light. You have to perfectly combine the light intensity with the light colour. My bathroom has spotlights for basic lighting, mood lighting on the wall and ‘a bit more’ light for doing my make-up thanks to an illuminated mirror.

In older bathrooms, people often make do with worn or old-fashioned taps, but it really isn’t difficult to replace these with models in an interesting shape or a modern colour such as Matt Black or Brushed Bronze. If the shower, bath tub and wash basin taps all match, the bathroom instantly looks more coherent. Modern taps also help to save water – without compromising on showering enjoyment.
As you usually know you me lollyOliver Fies, Brand Management Team Leader, found a further ideal upgrade for his bathroom: “The Designflex shower hose is a premium textile shower hose made from recycled PET. It fits on any connection and goes perfectly with any tap thanks to the range of colours available.”

Replacing your taps is easier than people realise, at least if you have modern exposed taps that are installed on the wall rather than behind it, as your new taps can simply be fitted to the existing connections.

For me, what transforms a functional bathroom into a homely oasis is the delicate interplay of shapes and colours. Harmoniously coordinating showers and taps in FinishPlus colours with furniture and ceramics is a little upgrade with a big impact.

One of the most important factors for a good shower is how the water is released from the shower head. This is down to a mixture of the water pressure and the spray type – and the latter is a science in itself:
The hansgrohe spray and sound laboratory works hard to make every shower spray feel exactly as it should. It does this by tweaking the shape and number of water droplets until it finds the optimum combination and achieves the desired result. In many cases, modern shower heads even offer multiple spray types that you can toggle at the push of a button. This means that a single shower can provide several different showering experiences, for example pampering you with a gentle shower spray like PowderRain or waking you up and releasing tension with more powerful spray types such as Rain or Massage sprays. This enables you to enjoy the shower type you want whenever you need.
Upgrading your shower head is simple: simply unscrew your old hand shower and replace it with a new one. If you want to install an overhead shower for the first time, you’ll need a new connection. If you already have an exposed connection, you can install a complete shower system with an overhead shower.
For me, the shower head makes all the difference: a quick replacement results in an incomparable showering experience. The fine, uniform water droplets offer a refreshing sensation every day and instantly elevate the entire bathroom to a new level.

A major upgrade – but with little effort: a showerpipe is a complete shower system comprising an overhead shower, hand shower, shower thermostat, hand shower holder, shower hose and shower rail. It’s a particularly good choice if you’d like a new overhead shower but don’t yet have a connection for one.
Showerpipes, including Raindance Alive and Rainfinity showerpipes, are available for most hansgrohe product ranges.
Showerpipes are easy to install and suitable for any bathroom as everything works using existing connections.
The result: your shower instantly looks less cluttered and more modern – and you can enjoy an thoroughly relaxed showering experience with just a single modification.
The Raindance Alive Q showerpipe features my two favourite spray types – PowderRain and RainAir – for a sensational showering experience. It also has the added bonus of looking great: the exposed design is so minimalistic it seems like a concealed solution.

An illuminated bathroom mirror not only looks beautifully modern but is also wonderfully functional as it shines the light directly onto your face. This prevents annoying shadows when shaving or applying your make-up.
A dimmable light with an adjustable colour temperature is particularly practical. This not only enables you to use the light as a functional light, but also to create the right ambience, for example with a crisp, bright light in the morning and a pleasantly soft one in the evening. An integrated heating function furthermore prevents the mirror from fogging up, so it’s ready to use whenever you need it.
My top tip: go for an illuminated mirror with an anti-fog function. I love hot showers but they instantly fog up normal mirrors. A finish with a special anti-fog function resolves the problem. Good lighting at face height also enables me to precisely apply my make-up – a little upgrade that has made my everyday life far simpler.

If you have the space for it, adding seating is possibly the simplest way to upgrade your bathroom. Whether fixed or mobile, seating instantly makes the room more homely and easier to use. It simplifies your skin and body care routines, helps you get dressed and offers you a place to relax. The possibilities are almost endless: a bench or stool, a wall-mounted sideboard that also provides storage space or a sturdy laundry basket with a seat.
If renovating more extensively, an integrated seat within the shower offers a genuine upgrade in terms of comfort, convenience and safety – and makes things far easier if you ever become less mobile, for example following an injury.
We don’t have a lot of room in our bathroom, but a seat is a must. We therefore opted for a sturdy sideboard that doubles up as a storage solution.
Oliver Fies, Teamlead Brand Management
The trick to a neat and tidy bathroom is to opt for bathroom furniture that offers plenty of storage space: when all the little things you have in your bathroom disappear from view, the room instantly feels tidier. Enclosed storage solutions are particularly ideal in this regard, for example in the form of tall cabinets or vanity units. Depending on requirements, these can be wall mounted or freely positioned.
If renovating more extensively, it’s worth reducing visual clutter even further, for example by using an sBox to conceal the shower hose in the bath tub or opting for built-in accessories such as a tileable bin, toilet brush holder and toilet roll holder. Joint-free wall areas also give the bathroom a calmer feel and make it easier to clean.
I’m definitely team order: all of the toiletries and towels in my bathroom are stored in enclosed cupboards. This not only neatens up the room but also makes it easier to clean. The only open shelf is exclusively for decorative items, allowing them to stand out and look great.

Reigniting your love of your bathroom doesn’t necessarily require a complete redesign – as long as you’re not planning a major renovation any time soon. Often, all it takes is a simple change that creates more order or injects a sense of wellbeing. And if you are planning more extensive renovations, the changes can be bigger too: new tiles, a freestanding bath tub as an eye-catching feature or a modern, floor-level shower.
Whatever your current plans, simply use the hansgrohe 3D Inspirator tool to find the bathroom design you like the most.
